Exploring Green Careers: Highlights from the Green Frontier Workshop Series

Updated: Nov 27

Discover what makes Green Frontier unique, player insights, and key takeaways from our recent workshops

The global shift towards sustainability has led to a rise in green jobs, making it crucial to encourage more young people to join the green industry. A common question is, “What skills and qualifications are needed to secure these roles?” In 2024, we partnered with Press Start Studios to launch Green Frontier, an interactive educational tool aimed at inspiring youth for green careers.

Green Frontier is a strategic card game where players take on various green sector roles, develop key skills, and tackle climate-related challenges as a team. As part of the launch, we hosted free workshops from August to October 2024, receiving positive feedback from participants and partner organisations.

Launching Campaign Overview

The Green Frontier workshop series was an exciting journey into the world of green careers, featuring 6 interactive sessions supported by our community partners, including DreamImpact, Eaton, Ednovators and LinkedIn. Designed for a diverse audience, the series catered to enthusiastic educators, secondary school students, university students, and the general public that are united by a common goal: to delve deeper into green career opportunities.

Nearly 100 participants joined us on this exploration, actively engaging in discussions and the game scenarios that focused on essential green skills and qualifications necessary for launching a successful career in this rapidly evolving field.

Highlights of the Game

“Green job” is a generalized term that encompasses a variety of roles focused on conserving the environment, each requiring specific, in-demand skills. Green Frontier mirrors this reality, where players take on diverse roles and must equip their characters with relevant skill sets to tackle different missions.

Characters Selection and Introduction

In a game workshop, players can select from 15 characters, each with a distinct profession and personality. Once chosen, players introduce their roles and share how climate change impacts their daily lives to spark conversation on environmental issues.

Tackling Missions with Different Green Skills

Green Frontier includes 5 mission rounds, each requiring players to strategize the skills needed to overcome challenges. 95 skills are introduced in this game and grouped into 3 categories: soft skills, hard skills, and green-specific skills. The game also offers 2 mission tracks, “Climate Resilience” and “Green Policy,” each has a distinctive set of missions.

Peer Learning and Experience Sharing

This game encourages interaction and discussion. To foster peer learning and deeper understanding, each round concludes with discussions where players exchange insights on green skills relevant to their roles and share personal experiences.
